Tao Tao Ju
Wonton Soup, € 4.50 |
We stopped at Tao Tao Ju a 'China Restaurant' just across the cinema building, Kinopolis. It is a bit away from the crowd of the mall visitors, I think the location is a bit unfortunate. People would most likely not wander into this area of the mall unless they're heading to the cinema.
My first impression: It looks pretty authentic for my Asian eyes. It's pretty much how Chinese restaurants look back on my home continent. The menu looks pretty authentic as well, they even have some Indonesian food.
Black Tea + Lemon, € 1.90 |
The restaurant is not directly behind the entrance door, but rather you are greeted by a spiral staircase which leads to another door upstairs, and then you arrive at the actual restaurant. They display the menu on the glass window by the entrance door downstairs, which I find nice so we can actually see if there's something we fancy before deciding to go inside. I had a strong craving for wonton, and couldn't contain myself when I saw that they HAD wonton soup!
Service was nice, all the workers were Asian and they spoke both German and English well. They even provided lemon slices with my black tea, per my request. It was the first time I saw the lemon squeezer apparatus, too, so it was another new experience for me.
There were a few people dining there, although I'm sure they could have more business if they're situated at a busier location of the mall. I would definitely recommend the wonton soup, they're handmade and they tasted great. If you miss Chinese or Indonesian food, or just miss the experience of dining at a Chinese restaurant back home, I would definitely recommend this place.
